Being in a Military family you could have that we miss out on a lot. And so do our kids. I mean lets think about it....We miss out on
1) Holiday dinners
2) birthday parties
3) weddings
4) Graduations
5) Birth
6) Everyday things
And those are just some of the big things that we miss out on! It goes both ways. Our kids do not get to have family at their Birthday's, we have people around for the holidays but it's not "family" with our Aunts rolls or Grandma's stuffing. Those are things that we miss out on.
Why is it that we miss out on these things. Is it because we have in our mind what it should look like and because we can not have that we think we miss out. I think we miss out because we do not look for a way not to miss out! In the past month there have been 2 high graduations and 4 yes 4 babies! All boys! Where was I for all of this 3000 miles away! Not where I wanted to be when all of this was going on. How did I make it so I did not feel like I was missing out. I called to tell the two sweet ladies how proud I was of them for finish high school and that I wish I was there. And that I love them. I'm running a little late and still have not got anything in the mail for them. But I will get it there soon! I hope! With all the babies! I wrote and or talk to each of the mommy! The first mommy had twins!! And have one at home a girl, but sh was coming home with 2 and 3. The 2nd mommy was having her 3rd! I was able to write her on facebook and got to text a little after. And the 3rd mommy is my sweet sister~in~love (law) This one kids me more than the others. Just because 4 years ago we were both having girls just 2 months apart. And we have became best friends. But the girls and I have something sweet for her.
We plan to be there when we can. And when we can't we still make sure to talk or write to who ever big day it is. And our family and friends back home are very good about doing the same for our girls. Sometimes I fall behind, but for the most part I try to stay up on it.
So do we feel that we or our kids are missing out? No! But they do know what matters! And that's our family and friends! It's all about how you look at it. I'm not saying that we do not wish we were there or that we do not get home sick, we do and more so when we are missing things. But we are grateful for the time we do get. And it give us a changes to get cradtive in ways we stay in the loop.
